On Tuesday 11 June, the students led a musical concert of solos and ensembles in the Prospect Theatre.
This year's Student Led Concert was an amazing demonstration of what is possible when students come together with a common goal. Students volunteered to take on roles including designing the programme, creating posters, social media posts, technical support as well having 2 student compères for the event itself.
From the setting up of equipment to the diverse range of performances, this concert allowed us, as students, to celebrate music in all forms.
Band performances included The Morettis and ‘Sunflower’ by Rex Orange County, The Offbeats with a performance of ‘House Of Fun/Baggy Trousers’ by Madness and Alibi’s own composition, ‘Why Can’t I Go’ to finish.
Other performances included Josh performing 'Log Cabin Blues' and 'Ragtime Robin' on marimba and Mae performing Franck’s Violin Sonata, accompanied by fellow student, Tara.
The wonderful atmosphere created is something that can hopefully continue with future concerts in years to come.
Stuart McSweeney, Curriculum Manager for Music and Subject Tutor for BTEC Performance said, “This is only the second of these events we have done and the students excelled themselves in the performing aspect as well as the planning aspect as they did last year. There were around 30 students who came to the first planning meeting, showing a keen interest in getting involved and trying new things and learning new skills. Well done to all involved doing seen or unseen jobs to make the concert a huge success.”
