Posted on 16 May 2017

A Level English students have been awarded with certificates for their entries into the local round of the Rotary Young Writer Competition.

The competition, which attracted nearly 100 entries, is a well-established national event organised by Rotary International, Great Britain and Ireland. It required a short piece of writing on the theme of ‘Reflection’. Mary Madine from Farnborough’s Rotary Club visited the College on Friday 12 May to congratulate students on their success and creativity and present them with their awards. She said, “Their entries were fascinating and each one took a completely different approach to the subject.”

Five students received awards:

Vivienne Mathews – Runner up in the senior age group

Eden Underwood - Highly Commended

Amelia Gaughan - Highly Commended

Lauren Bright – Certificate

Lily Ketley - Certificate

Dominic Eady, Senior Curriculum Manager for English said: “Creative Writing involves a balance of technical skill and subjective judgement which our students have clearly been able to achieve. With such a large range of entries it is fantastic that representatives from the College have done so well.”
