Scuttlers performed by PTC

The Prospect Theatre Company (PTC), our second year Drama enrichment group, performed their gritty and realistic production of Scuttlers last week, to a packed audience who were engrossed from the very beginning.

Scuttlers, written by Rona Munro in 2015, takes as its subject the Manchester street gangs of 1885.  Living in early industrial suburbs, the young mill workers form the beginnings of urban gangs, fighting over their territory with belts, fists and knives.

The way this play was written is a very different style of theatre for the students who rose to the challenge. Their interpretation of the characters’ defiant energy, love and personal battles was tremendous. They showed real strength as an ensemble and executed folk song and dance with flair and confidence.

The audience were directed by the actors and moved around the auditorium in an immersive piece of promenade theatre. They felt truly integrated into the action and found the atmosphere to be ‘electric’.

Rebecca Lewis-Verebelyi, PTC Director and Curriculum Manager for A Level drama and theatre commented, “What a wonderful performance! The audience thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were keen to discuss the piece afterwards with other parents, staff and the cast; a real testament to the power of the students’ work.  We are so proud of all they’ve achieved.”
