Members from our increasingly popular student-led eSports Society are currently competing in the British eSports Championships 2018.

The Championships are a national tournament run online every Wednesday evening.  Four teams of students have entered into two competitive eSports titles: ‘League of Legends’ and ‘Overwatch’.  Teams take part in games against other colleges with the top eight scorers moving on to the playoffs.  All the Farnborough teams successfully secured their spots in the playoffs despite an unfortunate first round forfeit for ‘Overwatch’.  One team, nicknamed the ‘Farnborough Falcons’, were undefeated in their ‘League of Legends’ group stage, a rare occurrence!

This is the first time such an activity has been on offer at the College.  The motivation and dedication of the players is refreshing to see in an industry that is blossoming with more and more educational institutions embracing eSports.

First year student, Michael ‘SenseiShark’ Kelly, captain of the team competing in ‘Overwatch’ talks about his experience: “It has been incredible so far!  I never thought I’d be part of something so exciting and intense when I joined the society.  Over the course of two months, it has grown into something truly special, and has been great in teaching me teamwork, coordination and leadership skills.”

All the teams are excited and ready to go into playoffs, with the goal being to represent the College in the finals held at the NEC in Birmingham in spring 2019 – good luck to everyone involved!
