Stretch and Challenge

Regardless of ability, all learners are actively encouraged to take advantage of diverse opportunities to extend and deepen their subject expertise and, where appropriate, go beyond the limit of the subject specifications.  For more information about what subject areas do to stretch and challenge learners, please see ‘By Subject’.

Where students have been identified among the highest academic achievers (usually from their average GCSE score) we ensure that, throughout their time with us, they are encouraged and supported to identify their aspirations, and given the means to achieve them.  We provide a specific programme of events and interventions to support these students which includes:

  • A bespoke series of specialist subject masterclasses
  • Expert Tutor support throughout the UCAS process
  • Preparation for applications and admissions tests
  • Personal Statement workshops and feedback
  • ‘Introduction to Oxbridge’ talk from Admissions Tutors
  • Interview guidance sessions and mock interviews
  • Open Days, Oxbridge Conference and HE Convention visits
  • Moving On Day - the largest event of its kind in the UK, designed to get students thinking about their future options

Students also have the option of taking the Extended Project Qualification, an independent research project which is valued by universities and is equivalent to half an A level.  More information can be found here
