The Prospect Trust is a leading Multi-Academy Trust in the South of England, with an aim of providing outstanding education for all learners within a family of local academies. There are currently three academies within the Trust: The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Tomlinscote School and Frimley Church of England Junior School.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Computer Science Team within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.

The Curriculum Area of Computer Science Department 

There are currently four specialist teachers in the Computer Science department, teaching a cohort of over 250 students.  We share a small and friendly office with staff who teach ICT.  We teach the OCR A level specification, 20% of which is a substantial programming project started in the first year of the two year course.  We teach programming fundamentals with Java and students also learn JavaScript and HTML (HTML, CSS and JavaScript are used to create the GUI for projects).  You do not need to already have these skills but you must have an enthusiasm, capacity and willingness to learn them.  The department has excellent resources and facilities, including interactive whiteboards and well maintained networked computers in all teaching rooms.

This role allows you to focus on teaching the subject you are enthusiastic about, to fantastic young people who have chosen the subject and are motivated to learn.  You will have the opportunity to enhance the curriculum in ways that benefit students and interest you, for example through extra-curricular activities, as well as developing your skills and teaching practice supported by effective and dynamic leadership.  You will be part of a team which strives for continual improvement in teaching and learning, student experience and student attainment.

The Post of Computer Science Subject tutor

We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:

  • A thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy;
  • A desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner
  • A passion for the subject;
  • Excellent ICT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom 
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a desire to build on this; and an
  • Enthusiasm for working with 16-19 year old students.

We are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching.   

Candidates will be part of a team where resources and ideas are freely shared for the greater good of the department. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.

How we support you:

As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community.  This will include:

  • a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
  • support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and
  • an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching.

For graduates we will organise and fund a teaching qualification - usually a Professional Certificate in Education programmes (Further Education and Skills Sector - FESS) through the University of Greenwich which is a long distance qualification gained after two years.  At the end of these two years we can apply for you to get QTLS through the University of Greenwich.  In addition we offer ECT status through The Xavier Hub and Teach First.
