We are looking for a passionate Politics Curriculum Manager, to join the high achieving department. The ideal candidate will be able to have a flexible, proactive and problem solving style with outstanding imitative management skills. A key requirement of the role will be the ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team of teachers and support staff.

Politics department

We are very passionate about developing a genuine love of political ideas in our learners.  We often push our students towards extracurricular readings and activities. We believe that all learners can be successful as long as they cultivate the correct learning behaviours and essay structures. 

We are proud that many of our students go onto study politics & IR at university and move into political careers. One of our greatest departmental successes is helping support young people into politics straight from college. Several of our students have gone directly into the civil service, working in the Cabinet Office, Treasury and Department of Business and Trade. 

You should join the team if you are interested in encouraging our learners understand the world in new and innovative ways. If you are excited about teaching young people to work hard and become more engaged this might be the role for you.

Day to Day Expectations of a Teacher 

A full time teacher will have  22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 Teaching groups (15 periods ) with 5 additional periods for preparation & marking. 

On a Tuesday all staff are expected to attend a briefing at 8.40am and departmental meetings / all staff staff CPD after college, finishing at 5.20pm.

Throughout the year there are a number of whole college events, (open evenings,  parent evenings, Interview day, enrollment) at which attendance is required. 

Common resources are shared within departments and there are regular opportunities for professional development, delivering extracurricular student clubs and wellbeing / social activities.

How do we support you:

As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community.  This will include:

  • a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
  • support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and
  • an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching
