This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced finance professional to join one of the country’s most successful post-16 education providers. In 2016, the results gained by our students placed the College in the top 10% of providers nationally, yet we continue to strive for better.
The Director of Finance will be an inspiring and innovative leader who will contribute actively to the strategic development of the College. As Director of Finance you will join a senior leadership team of three (the Principalship) reporting to the College Principal. You will be responsible for the financial management of the College and its estate, supported by a team of finance specialists, including a Finance Manager, and an Estates Manager.
This College has an enviable reputation for success on every level including financial management. Whilst maintaining its ‘outstanding’ financial rating by the funding agency, the College continues to navigate significant budget reductions imposed since 2011. During the past 15 years it has grown annually: we now have around 3,650 students, and over 430 staff, with annual revenue approaching £18 million. In the same period, through judicious financial management, we have invested £35m of capital development into the campus, largely funded from our own resources, to create outstanding learning facilities for teaching and learning.
But these are challenging and changing times in post-16 education. Recent funding reforms, Ofsted and a national review of post-16 provision have rightly demanded more from colleges. Whilst this presents challenges it also provides opportunities that, for this College, is likely to mean that we create a multi-academy trust with several local schools joining us in a new group-like structure. This may happen as soon as September 2017, after which the role of the Director of Finance would change significantly.
Given this likely change, the College is seeking an exceptional person with the core financial and commercial skills together with the management and leadership capabilities needed as our organisation develops. You must hold a relevant and recognised accounting qualification and have significant post-qualification experience of working both strategically and operationally within a dynamic environment.
