We are looking for a passionate English Language Curriculum Manager to join the high achieving English Department. The ideal candidate will be able to have a flexible, proactive and problem solving style with outstanding imitative management skills. A key requirement of the role will be the ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team of teachers and support staff.

The English department:

 The English department currently consists of nine specialist teachers who teach A level English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature and GCSE English to over 650 students.  Over 150 students are studying A level English Language on the AQA specification. Subject tutors are committed to maximising student success and progression.

 

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic to work in a considerate, collaborative and friendly environment, as the department often creates and shares their resources. Their primary motivation should be to maximise student potential and work to meet the goals of the department as set out above. Flexibility and a passion for teaching and learning is paramount, with excellent work ethic and subject knowledge.

  • Cohort Size: Approximately 150 in English Language
  • Number of Staff: 3 English Language teachers (part time and full time)
  • Management Structure: CM English Language, CM English Literature, CM English Language and Literature, Subject Leader GCSE English
  • Exam board specification: AQA
  • Department facilities: 6 designated English classrooms, 2 of which are computer rooms

Day to Day Expectations of a Teacher

  • A full time teacher will have 22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 Teaching groups (15 periods) with 5 additional periods for preparation and marking.
  • On a Tuesday, all staff are expected to attend departmental meetings / all staff staff CPD after college, finishing at 5.20pm.
  • Throughout the year there are a number of whole college events (open evenings,  parent evenings, Interview Day, enrolment) at which attendance is required.
  • Common resources are shared within departments and there are regular opportunities for professional development, delivering extracurricular student clubs and wellbeing / social activities.

As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community.  This will include:

  • a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
  • support from your director of faculty; and
  • an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching.
