IT - Digital Systems and Data - V Level

This new course replaces the Information Technology (AAQ) and will commence teaching from September 2027.

The qualification has a number of units covering the following topics:

  • Professional & Ethical Practice

Applied Practical Assessment  60% (Set Task / Project)

Students solve realistic digital tasks—such as configuring a network, diagnosing technical system faults, setting up data storage permissions, or writing AI prompt workflows to solve a business problem.

Written Core Examinations 40% - Externally set and markedwritten paper(s).

Tests understanding of fundamental principles, including cybersecurity risks, data privacy laws (GDPR), system architecture theory, and automated decision-making ethics.

Study alongside: business, mathematics, English, psychology, art & design or graphics, media. sport, criminology, law.

An increasingly popular route for students to take after college has been Degree Apprenticeships which offer a work based route to study and learn to degree level with companies such as Cisco, CGI, Ageas, Barclays Bank, Microsoft, Vodafone and Signify (Philips UK).

Similarly University based degrees such as BA Business Studies, BSc Information  Systems, BSc Computer Science would be typical routes to follow for IT specialisms.

 

Entry Requirements

  • You should have at least a grade 4 in GCSE maths.
  • You should have at least a grade 4 in GCSE English language.
  • Experience of an ICT related course is preferable but not essential.
