Chemistry department
The department teaches A level Chemistry to 430 students. They are a close-knit team made up of teachers with a variety of backgrounds including academia, accountancy, tech start-ups, pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicine and teaching. Many students go on to study medicine or STEM subjects at competitive universities - we have had particular success with Oxbridge applications over the past few years. However, the department has a strong focus on ensuring that students pick the correct progression option for them - whether it is a traditional degree route, a degree apprenticeship or something else entirely. The department uses a central bank of resources but with flexibility in the delivery of course material. It is a highly supportive team who would equally welcome an experienced teacher, someone newly-qualified or a career-changer. Each member of the team takes responsibility for delivering some aspect of our super curricular offering - from Olympiad preparation sessions to mock ‘multiple mini-interviews’ for our medicine candidates.
