Richard Llewellyn UK Education Manager for Steinberg presents Principal Simon Jarvis with the Award

The College is celebrating its Music Technology department being named as a ‘Certified Training Centre’ for Steinberg (owned by Yamaha) one of the world’s leading music software creators. The department at the College is the largest of its kind in the UK, with 65 workstations, running the latest in professional music sequencing software.

Over 150 students in the department now use the recently released ‘Cubase Pro 8’, a program favoured by musicians worldwide, including renowned film composer Hans Zimmer. Offering a broad range of industry-standard resources, the College boasts one of the top performing departments in its field nationally, a fitting reason for Steinberg to formally recognise its achievements. The Sixth Form College Farnborough now becomes one of only ten official Steinberg training centres in the UK, joining other centres of excellence such as the University of York.

Curriculum Manager for Music Technology, Matt Prudente-Poulton commented, “this is such an achievement for the department and the College as a whole. We work hard to ensure we stay on top of the rapidly changing technologies within the music industry and our students enjoy working with the very latest in music software and hardware. Receiving this certification, from Steinberg, means that the department has now been given a rare accreditation, which very few centres in the UK are lucky enough to have. Our students benefit from having access to the best music resources and teachers who are formally recognised trainers in the software!”

Richard Llewellyn, Education Manager for Steinberg UK said, “I am delighted that The Sixth Form College Farnborough has been approved as a Steinberg Certified Training Centre. Farnborough is one of the top performing sixth form colleges in the country and led by Matt Prudente-Poulton, the Music Technology tutors help their students achieve excellent results. I hope that through this partnership we will be able to proactively help and support each other in the access, growth and development of Music Technology”.
