Swimming team members

Last weekend saw huge success by our students in a wide range of sporting events at National Championship level – in swimming, cross country and trampolining.

9 of our students competed on behalf of the South East and came home with a grand total of 11 medals, all either gold or silver - a fantastic achievement! The results from all the events are as follows:

A2 students George Emmins, Elliot Broad and James Ellison achieved gold for the men's swimming team.

A2 student Amelia Rice, who studies Economics, Mathematics and Psychology, was part of the gold medal winning swimming team and won all of her races.

First year student Rian McCawley was 3rd individually in the men's cross country and both him and AS student Bryn Smith were part of the men's team that won gold.

Second year student Megan Gildea, who also studies Economics, English Literature and Psychology, was part of the women's cross country team that got silver.

Elliot Thompson, who is studying Further Mathematics, Geography, Mathematics for Further Maths and Physics in his first year at the College, was part of the men's trampolining team and won gold.

Tayla Porter, who is studying Human Biology, Physical Education and Psychology in her second year at the College, was 2nd in the women's trampolining taking the individual silver and the team gold.

As well as all these fantastic results, student Jamie Cunningham competed in the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships, finishing 7th overall and was awarded best swim time in the Under 19 boy’s category.

Jamie commented, “I was seeded at 9th place so improved two whole places. The weather conditions were really bad - the run was done in a hailstorm! I hope next year to do even better and I will be competing in the same age group.

Congratulations to all the students who took part and a massive thank you to the staff who have supported the students in their achievements.
