Principal Simon Jarvis during his skydive
On 7 May, the College Principal Simon Jarvis, joined by associates from The Community Matters Partnership Project (CMPP), took part in a skydive over Salisbury Plain.
Under the guidance of instructors from the Red Devils Parachute Team, Simon and Katy Marlow, Community Engagement and Events Coordinator at the College were joined by Carol Stanton of Bakers Solicitors at Sarum Airfield, to undertake this ‘leap of faith’.
After just 30 minutes of training the courageous threesome fell some 13,000 feet to the ground! The fall included a 45 second free fall which reached speeds of up to 150MPH.
To date, sponsors have generously donated a combined total of £3369.46. All the money raised will go to The Community Matters Partnership Project, which is committed to improving the life chances of young people in the local community. This year the CMPP partners will raise as much money as possible for the CMPP Fund. The fund will be used to provide grants to local projects that help young people to reach their true potential, from master classes in enterprise to mentoring schemes and reading projects.
Simon Jarvis commented, “Indescribable! Just an incredible experience: inspired by the fantastic work of our CMPP partners, encouraged by so many sponsors and supporters back at base - a very big thanks to all of you - and made possible by the brilliant Red Devils team at Old Sarum.”
Katy Marlow said, “The skydive was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life, only made better by knowing that the sponsorship money we raised will be going to really great youth projects in Rushmoor. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Partnership, those who donated, the Aldershot Garrison and The Red Devil Freefall Team, so a massive thank you to everyone who supported us!”
