Rachel Hambly

On 2 July, Classical Civilisation student Rachel Hambly won a commendation for her outstanding essay on the ancient Classical world. The question she had to ponder was:

"The study of art and/or archaeology reveals people the texts ignore - Discuss with reference to a period and region of your choice."

Rachel had to compete against 60 selected students and for her to claim third place was an incredible achievement. She was presented with an award at Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge in a reception held at the renowned Cambridge University College.

Ivan Barisnikov-Dent, Curriculum Manager for Classical Civilisation said, "For Rachel to attempt, let alone receive a commendation for her essay is a very rare achievement. There was great competition and she has done herself and the College proud."
