Students from The Media and Film Department at The Sixth Form College Farnborough have excelled again at the Southampton Solent ‘Show Us Your Shorts’ film competition picking up six out of possible eight awards.
Southampton Solent are committed to developing a range of competitions to raise students’ aspirations for higher education and support them in their progression and the ‘Show Us Your Shorts’ competition is an excellent example of this. Schools and colleges across Hampshire are invited to enter up to three films for 1st year students and three for 2nd year students.
All six of the College’s entries were shown on the evening which was attended by students, parents and industry professionals. This year the College won all but one of the prizes for the first year category with Claire Frank and Jessica Martin’s short film Disconnected receiving first prize and the audience choice award whilst Olivia Pattison won second prize for her short film Acid Youth. All of the students were at the evening to collect their awards and prize money.
The second year category garnered as much success with Adele Bye winning first prize and the audience choice award for her outstanding hand drawn animation Among the Sleep whilst Stephen O’Brien picked up third prize for his music video 90s Baby. Both students are heading to UCA Farnham to study creative foundation courses.
Aidan Hamilton, Senior Curriculum Manager of Media and Film Studies commented, "The creative talent of our students is outstanding and their work continues to impress. In an environment where the validity of education in the creative arts is being questioned it is refreshing to see creativity being rewarded. I am incredibly proud of the winners, entrants and the teachers that worked with them. "
