Proud students and parents visit the art exhibition at Fujitsu Headquarters
More than 200 fine art, graphics, photography, textiles and 3D pieces, created by students from the College, have been exhibited over a two week period at the London Headquarters of IT giants Fujitsu, who employ more than 11,000 people in the UK and Ireland.
These incredibly talented students and their families were guests of honour at a reception on 16 July hosted by Simon Carter, Executive Director of Marketing for Fujitsu UK & Ireland.
As they mingled with Fujitsu's senior management and guests, students were able to elaborate on the art pieces by explaining the inspiration for their work and the techniques involved in their creation.
Fujitsu personnel who could not make it to the exhibition itself had the opportunity to view it online, courtesy of the College’s Young Enterprise team "Conspiracy". Some original pieces and photographic print versions of the artwork are also being sold via the website, with profits going to Fujitsu's chosen charity, Action for Children.
Guests included Mary O'Hagan, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Action for Children, who was, "so impressed by the quality of art and how well the event was organised.” Another guest was Roshan Kapoor of Direction Group, one of the top ten technology marketing agencies in the UK, who was, "massively impressed with the talented Sixth Form College Farnborough students and their work."
Lana Fowler, one of the students whose work was exhibited said, "It was an honour to have my work displayed at Fujitsu's offices and a great way to celebrate the end of our academic year."
Jake Garrard, another of the student artists commented, “It was a most enjoyable evening and showed what can be achieved if you work really hard. It was lovely to see all of the students' work in a corporate environment.”
Hanno Niemand, Curriculum Manager for Photography enthused, "Beyond the confidence building and celebration of effort of our young artists, their views on making art have been challenged through this event. The realisation of how to be entrepreneurial with their talent and skill will influence the way they promote and present themselves to potential markets or audiences.”
The exhibition is the latest collaborative event organised by Fujitsu and the College. The College's Director of Community Engagement, Christine Eustace is, “absolutely delighted that we have been able to work with Fujitsu on such an inspirational project for our art students, as well as a number of other projects throughout the year. What a coup for these students to be able to say that they have had their work exhibited in Central London! I look forward to developing our collaboration even further over the coming years.”
Graeme Stoker, Campaign Marketing Manager at Fujitsu added, “This is one of the real calendar highlights for Fujitsu and a great celebration of creative excellence. We love working with the students and the College to, frankly, show off their amazing talent. I personally love blending the traditional corporate office environment (often a natural pallet) with the colour, impact and flair that comes from the students of Farnborough. It’s creative and artistic enrichment for everyone involved.”
