Maths students, Jack Tyler, Thomas Edwards, Nathan Day and Michael Daborn are celebrating coming third, in the regional heat, of the UKMT Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC), held at Highdown School in Reading.
The STMC is jointly organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and the Further Maths Support Programme and tests mathematical, communication and teamwork skills. Students compete against teams from other schools in the region.
After two rounds, the College team were in first place with an incredible 119 marks out of a possible 120 but just lost out in the final round, coming third out of 27 teams.
David Herring, Subject Tutor in Maths, who accompanied the teams to the competition said “The team performed exceptionally as did our reserve Leo Chapman, whose help at the event was much appreciated by the organisers. Their sense of teamwork was exemplary and they shared their prizes, of chocolate oranges, with Leo."
Thomas Edwards, part of the team commented “I really enjoyed the whole event, especially working with Nathan, Michael and Jack on the group problems. The questions were challenging and fun.”
