On Wednesday 2 December our enrichment Dance Company launched into the festive season of entertainment, with their original performance entitled, 'Bygone'. The show presented the audience with an eclectic mix and fusion of popular steps from the roaring 1920's to the 1960's, employing modern contemporary techniques.
The cast of over 50, included students from A level dance, as well as enrichment students from across the College. The show also featured Physical Theatre exam pieces from first year BTEC performing arts students, based on the themes taken from Jim Cartwright's play, 'Road'.
From the vintage cafe scene's, to steam train platforms, the dancers took us on a journey both emotive and joyous, leaving the audience pensive and energised with the Charleston, Lindy Hop flavour on display.
Ellen Jones, a second year dance student “really enjoyed being in the dance company this year. Not only has the experience helped me develop my dance skills but I've made many new friends.
It was a great opportunity to take part in such a fun production. Every dancer was left feeling ecstatic to have put together such a fantastic show. I felt proud that my own choreography was featured in one of the pieces, it has really boosted my confidence for the future. “
Emily Southwell, Dance Company Director said, "I am always proud to watch the students showcase their work on these evenings, students thrive being given the opportunity to choreograph and be an integral part of the creative process. They bring so much energy and commitment, it’s a real pleasure to watch them flourish onstage.”
Rebecca Rhodes, Assistant Principal, Teaching, Learning and Assessment commented “Bygone provided the audience with great diversity. We experienced emotion, pace, solo performances and group showcases. The overall experience was one of such high quality and commitment from exceptionally talented students. One definitely left with the desire to clear the lounge to make way for some dancing in the privacy of our own homes!”
