The Graphic Design Department celebrated their first exciting news of 2016, as we congratulate AS student James Vaughan on his winning logo design for children’s charity O2E.
Ollie Rastall of Source Academy, who recently ran a marketing competition at the College, approached the Department and invited students to design the logo. Ollie, (who is on the Committee at O2E), said “O2e is a children’s charity in its 10th year, to celebrate the landmark we wanted to update our logo. The brief was to design a logo, that eluded to our ethos of using exercise and adventure, to encourage people to get out of their comfort zones. The winning design from James Vaughan was chosen because it feels energetic. The way running has been incorporated into the design of the lettering is fantastic and suggests that O2e is intrinsically related to activity. The bold use of our brand colours helps the design jump out and suggests that James has taken a lot of consideration in his design, whilst referring closely to the brief.”
James Vaughan, commented on his inspiration, “By researching the aims of the charity, I became aware of the focus on exercise and being active. This prompted me to incorporate something into the logo that communicated what the charity does and how it's active. I started by sketching the abbreviation and discovered that the number ‘2’, in their name, resembled a bent leg with a foot. I built upon this to get the final design, which consists of a person running with one of their legs forming the curve of the number 2. The O and E were constructed from the same circle and then I added the full name at the bottom. I made sure I used the colours in their branding”.
Rose Davies, Senior Curriculum Manager, Graphic Design added “It’s always fantastic for the students to be involved in design work, which will be used within the community and for a good cause. James’s design is very professional and captures the progression and excitement of the charity.”
