Students celebrate Oxbridge offers

This year 23 students, almost a quarter of those who applied from the College, have been offered a place, above the national average of around 19%. A total of 8 students were offered a place at Oxford University and 15 at Cambridge University.

We have an enviable track record of student progression in to prestigious universities. Recent Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) figures, show that the College excels in preparing students for further study, with 93% of students who went on to study at Russell Group Universities, receiving a First or Upper Second degree classification, from those institutions in 2015.

Principal, Simon Jarvis commented “We are delighted that such a large number of our students have once again been offered the opportunity to study at Oxbridge and other Russell Group Universities, as well as with other respected Higher Education providers.  These offers reflect the superb performance of the staff at this College, in preparing youngsters who study here to be self-sufficient, independent learners who can meet the challenges of Higher Education head on and succeed."

Rachel Hambly, who has been offered a place at Cambridge University to study Classics said “I am so delighted to have received an offer to study at Cambridge and can't wait to progress my studies. The College has really encouraged me to study independently and stretch the boundaries of my knowledge. My Personal Tutor was a great help during my application - her feedback when refining my Personal Statement was invaluable.

Aimee Lawrence, who is also hoping to go to Cambridge, to study Modern Languages commented “It is the best feeling to have an offer from Cambridge University to study the subject that I love. So many hours of hard work are paying off and I couldn't be happier. I will always be grateful to the Modern Languages Department at the College, for their incredible support from day one - my decision to study at Farnborough Sixth was one of the best I ever made.”

Olivier Webb, who is hoping to study Biochemistry, at Oxford said “The idea of applying to Oxford was first introduced to me by my parents/teachers and I decided to do so after watching a talk at the College, which featured ex-Farnborough students who are now studying at Oxbridge. The College prepared me well for the whole application process, especially the mock interview and the interview preparation session, which stood me in good stead for the real thing.”
