SixFest

On Friday 6 May, the College hosted SixFest, the first of hopefully many exciting new music night festivals held in the Prospect Theatre, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and Music For All.

The event was organised by music technology students, with the intention of providing a fantastic platform, for musicians at the College to showcase their songs and musical creativity, whilst supporting more established headline acts and raising money and awareness for important charities.  SixFest certainly delivered this and so much more!

Student bands Drug Store Romeos, Tom Gortler, The Hunt and Amapola (all of which featured students currently studying BTEC music performance and music technology courses here at the College), wowed audiences, performing with an amazing confidence and energy whilst demonstrating real professionalism.  From delicate acoustic performances, featuring soaring harmonies, to authentic 90's Grunge and adrenaline fuelled pop punk, students provided an incredible display of musicality and talent.

The night was rounded off in spectacular style by popular Reading band HAIZE and ex-College student Tom Morley's band THØSS (currently causing a stir in critics’ circles and amassing nearly 400,000 plays on Spotify), both displaying a level of musicianship, performance and songwriting, which was truly breath-taking.  By the time THØSS had left the stage, it was clear to all who attended that they had been part of something very special indeed.

Subject Leader for BTEC music performance, Tom Stevens, commented “SixFest was a real triumph, the students who organised and played at this incredible event absolutely outdid themselves, demonstrating performances that rivalled the pros!”

Curriculum Manager for music technology and BTEC music, Matt Prudente-Poulton, added “what an amazing evening; the lights and visuals were of a professional standard, as were all of the students who performed.  The energy and atmosphere were incredible and to top it all off, we raised a substantial amount for charity.  Brilliant stuff.  We will definitely do this again!”

Jack Wood, a student at the College and member of the band Amapola said, “SixFest was undoubtedly a highlight of my College year; being able to perform for my friends was great fun.  The others bands and solo artists were amazing.”

Keep an eye out for future SixFest dates!
