On Thursday 12 May, the Musical Theatre Group presented a showcase of lesser known songs, entitled ‘Unsung’.
The Company, made up of both first and second years, produced a fantastic show, performing showstoppers from a diverse range of musicals to provide fantastic entertainment for all. The vibrant and fun ’13 – The Musical’ got the evening started, with comical highlights from Legally Blonde and Shrek to follow.
Solo performers stole the spotlight with a beautiful range of pieces, which showcased their talents, whilst group numbers provided the opportunity to demonstrate how well this tight knit Company work together.
Director Hermione Massey said “This is my first year working with the Musical Theatre Group and throughout the process of putting this showcase together, we’ve had so much fun! The students have been so enthusiastic putting themselves forward to perform solos and also joining together to create some amazing ensemble numbers. I’m so proud of what the group has created and can’t wait to do this all over again next year.”
Members of the Musical Theatre Company commented on taking part:
“I think it’s amazing how something so entertaining and refreshing can come about in such a short amount of time, when everyone pulls together. Family members told me how moved they were by the enthusiasm and passion from everyone on stage. Everyone is so talented and it was a really fun experience.” – Zoe Belcher, first year student.
Louise Beasley also a first year said “It was an amazing experience. We were able to explore songs from musicals we hadn’t heard of. It was an amazing way to extend our repertoire, in a fun, friendly atmosphere.”
