Local Architect Steve Howie, visited the College to judge the exciting and innovative projects produced by second year design and technology graphical products students.
Steve acted at a ‘client’ for those who produced projects in the Eco House category. Other products on display ranged from a food processor to a variety of innovative building designs.
The overall winners, Laurence Reynolds and Alex Brown, each received certificates from Steve.
Laurence’s design for an Eco House delivered on the brief and demonstrated his outstanding design and production skills in a highly detailed and accurate scale model of the home.
Alex Brown designed a recumbent trike for Tom Yendell, a mouth and foot painting artist who is a thalidomide victim, without arms. Tom commented “(the trike) is not designed like a typical disabled product, which can be very clinical and boring, this means that the design stands out from the others currently out there” he went on to praise Alex’s model “the final design is made to a very high quality that accurately follows the design specification."
Steve Howie said of the projects “they are of an extremely high standard, up there with the quality of graduate work. Each year the bar is raised! The department has been responsible for nurturing a number of highly talented future architects and product designers over the years.”
Steve was so impressed by the work that he was moved to award two additional Highly Commended prizes to Luke Collinson and Alex Barnes, for their unique house designs.”
