Farnborough Street Residents Association (FSRA) have continued in their quest to enhance public spaces by providing local students with the opportunity to exhibit their work and cheer up commuters using Farnborough North railway station.
In collaboration with the FSRA and GWR, samples of the students work will be exhibited throughout the summer and will be enjoyed by the hundreds of people who pass through the station each day.
The work of A level photography students Brittany Doyle and Connor Watson, from The Sixth Form College Farnborough, have been selected to be the first to exhibit work.
Brittany, in her first year at the College, explained the context of her picture: “I captured familiar Farnborough landmarks within this photo, to represent the history of the area. I hope that my photograph evokes a personal connection with those who know Farnborough well. Presenting this photo in black and white conveys a sense of connection to the past."
Connor, a second year student, added: “With guidance from my teacher, I tried to experiment with photographic techniques. I hope the picture is a dramatic image and that people will enjoy the contrast of colours in the picture.”
“We are delighted to be able to use our community spaces to celebrate the talents of our local young people” said Finlay Munro, Chairman of FSRA. “We will be rotating the spaces throughout the year with other schools and colleges in Farnborough and urge everyone to take a few moments during their travels to admire the selected works.”
Michelle Braby, who teaches photography at the College said: “What a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talents in the community and gain real professional experience to further their career.”
Christine Eustace, Director of Community Engagement and Employability at the College added "I am absolutely delighted that our hugely talented students are founding exhibitors for this innovative community project. What a terrific way to capture and share the essence of Farnborough.”
The College has a national reputation for excellence in the arts. This year student work has been exhibited in London galleries, won awards in national competitions and commissions from local businesses around Farnborough, brightening up their work and leisure spaces.
