The red carpet was out once again as the Prospect Theatre played host to the annual College Media and Film Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate the fantastic achievements of our media and film students in their coursework production units and beyond. A range of stunning print and film work were on display throughout the evening which included work that students had produced for a variety of organisations, such as the Starburst Foundation.
It was a star-studded evening, with industry professionals and academics including British Film Producer Gareth Ellis-Unwin (Oscar winner for ‘The King’s Speech’ with Bedlam Productions), TV Director and Producer Peter Eyre, plus Greg Boardman of Rastamouse fame, all presenting prizes and awards and congratulating the students on the professional standard of their work.
With over 600 students, the College's media and film department is one of the largest centres in the country, with a consistently outstanding record of achievement.
Aidan Hamilton, Senior Curriculum Manager for media and film at the College said, “Our goal is to take the curriculum as a starting point, inspire our students, open the doors to their imagination and give them the encouragement, opportunity and ambition to learn. We want the media and film department to be a vibrant, high achieving and caring place that students want to be a part of. Our students outstrip all national achievement figures by some margin year after year; plus every student survey we carry out tells us that they enjoy being here. The work the students have produced shows excellent technical skill and ambition but also tells a story and communicates with the audience. I am incredibly proud of them all, as well as the fantastic team of teachers and technical support staff that have helped them realise their potential.”
