Ghana 2016
Posted on 29 July 2016

For the 10th year running, students had the opportunity to visit our partner school The Presbyterian Secondary Technical School in Aburi, Ghana.  The link, started by Catherine Cole, Deputy Principal for Student Services, has flourished and our students now spend a week working in the school.

The chance to experience a different culture and school is one that, although slightly nerve-wracking at the beginning of the week, transformed into lifelong friendships by the end.  Students from both schools enjoyed cookery, leather working, PE classes and a day trip to Shia Hills Nature Reserve.  There was also a brilliant sports day including musical chairs, sack races and a highly competitive mixed football match.  One of our students retained the musical chairs title for us and somehow an English team won a penalty shootout in football...

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary, a beautiful mural was painted in the middle of the school by both sets of students to show the growing partnership between our two establishments.

Our staff also met with the new head teacher to discuss how to expand the partnership further and to see whether it would be possible for students from Ghana to visit England.

Staff members Matthew Thorne, Natalie Merriman and Emily Tobias all enjoyed their 10 days in Ghana with 18 wonderful students, and after initial issues with forgotten passports and lost luggage, the trip was wonderful and a life-changing experience was had by all.
