Birds of prey display - what a hoot!
Posted on 11 October 2016

On Monday 10 October, staff and students were treated to an incredible display of birds of prey from First Class Falconry.

Our Student Association Environmental Officer, Vivienne Mathews, had invited them to the College in order to fundraise for the Hawk Conservancy Trust.  She explained, “At Farnborough Sixth Form College, we aim to provide opportunities for all the different interests, hobbies and passions, no matter how small they are. Whilst birds of prey are a particular interest, I think it is important to bring everyone together to appreciate some of the most spectacular animals on our planet; not only did we have a good turnout of students, but also our dedicated staff showed up to learn more about the different eagles, falcons, vultures and even owls that came along with Alan the falconer today. More and more of these species are becoming threatened or even endangered, so I think it is important to educate people and make a difference to a worthy cause conserving vulnerable species.  Hopefully it will also nurture an interest in the environment which we sometimes take for granted.”

The display raised approximately £65 for the Hawk Conservancy Trust.
