Haiku Competition
Posted on 11 November 2016

The College’s English Department recently ran a Haiku poetry competition where students were asked to write poems in which they expressed their thoughts and feelings about studying English at the College.  Haikus are a traditional form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines; the first and last lines of the haiku have five syllables and the middle line has seven syllables.

Congratulations to Amy Began, Olivia Lewry and Magdalena Ciesnowska-Jankowska who won Amazon vouchers for their interesting and thought-provoking haikus!

How hard can it be?

I speak English, so easy.

Ha. Famous last words!

(Amy Began)

A door of knowledge.

It opens up every day,

sharing its secrets

(Olivia Lewry)

We're the creators;

our words the tools that make us,

who we really are.

(Magdalena Ciesnowska-Jankowska)

The department received a number of excellent entries from students which were all displayed on the competition board during the College’s Open Days.

Well done to all the students who entered!
