Career takes flight for Scott

Having successfully recruited a junior broker in the past and with growing business needs, Starflight Aviation contacted the College with a rare and exciting career opportunity for one of our College leavers.  Starflight Aviation are a private jet brokerage firm, offering the ultimate service in executive charter from its headquarters located at the private aviation terminal at Farnborough Airport.

Staff from Starflight presented to students from all curriculum areas to give insight into the private charter sector and the role of a junior broker.  Their visit inspired many of our students to apply for the role, with a number of students now considering the world of aviation as a career.

In order to recruit the right person, Starflight set up a scenario-based interview, giving students a real life client brief - these are an integral part in the daily life of a broker.  Students were tasked with researching and presenting back to the Starflight team, detailing how they would meet the client brief and secure the booking.  This challenging process enabled Starflight to draw out the skills and attributes crucial for this role.

This was a unique position and an extremely competitive process, with students giving very impressive presentations.  Two students were then selected for a formal interview day at the Starflight Headquarters with Scott Butcher securing the position.  Scott will now be mentored and trained by the experienced Starflight team leading to his own portfolio of clients.  We wish Scott every success in his new role with Starflight.

Howard Tamplin, Charter Manager at Starflight Aviation said, “Having taken on a student 18 months ago and seeing how they have flourished, we were keen to repeat the process.  So, we approached the College who were extremely welcoming and happy to help.

We presented the rare and coveted opportunity to the students and with the help of Laura Wakefield, Employability Coordinator, the sixth form team, and some great presentations from the students, we narrowed it down to two finalists.  We are absolutely delighted with the appointment of Scott as trainee broker to Starflight Aviation and can already see his potential.  For us, we have gained an enthusiastic, committed member of our growing team and, for Scott, he has a great opportunity and long career ahead of him.
