Our English department recently held a successful employability event in our Prospect Theatre discussing how studying English can help in the future when students enter the workplace. Speakers from a variety of fields presented to 150 students - Jane Mortimer from Time Inc., one of the largest media companies in the world, Louise Webber from Rushmoor Borough Council and an ex-Farnborough student Sophie Alderton from Government Department DEFRA.
Students discovered how the skills they acquire in English can help in careers including journalism, marketing, PR and the Civil Service. They were also able to record their attendance on Kloodle, an online profile which evidences student’s extra-curricular skills and activities on a CV-like page.
