Today the spotlight is on the art department, where students have been helping younger children get creative. There are four different courses in our art department, fashion and textiles, fine art, graphic design and photography. Students can take two of these in their programme of study and go on to specialise in many areas such as advertising, animation or architecture.
Recently the art department has joined up with the Connaught School's Art Club to produce a sculpture celebrating the school's new name - Alderwood. Students can use the experience as part of their enterprise award, so Lydia Gough, Juliet Bauermeister and Chloe Carter volunteered to help. Connaught Art Club consists of 21 pupils aged 11 and 12 and is run by teachers Youli Hamblin and Richard Darcy. Lydia, Juliet and Chloe are aiming to attend the club once a fortnight to help with the construction and decoration of the sculpture.
Hanno Niemand, Curriculum Manager for Photography commented, "I was really impressed with the confidence of the students, helping the pupils generate ideas and suggesting alternatives."
Lydia Gough, Fine Art and Textile student said, "The pupils were enthusiastic and had great ideas for their artwork."
