Travel Scholars with their awards
Last week, nine students received scholarship awards to aid their fundraising efforts for planned trips to volunteer abroad. The Travel Scholarships are discretionary awards, supporting independent travel and development of personal and social skills.
Students are undertaking a variety of projects this year from volunteering in an elephant sanctuary in Sri Lanka to helping with conservation efforts in Ecuador and teaching English to children in Nepal to helping disabled children at school in India. The length of projects range from three weeks to nine months, some students taking time out of their summer holiday and others taking a gap year before university.
The students must document their trip and on return submit a written piece about their experience and what they learnt. If you would like to see the expeditions last year’s scholars went on please click here.
The 2017 Travel Scholars are Peter Coe, Phil Chevassut, Edward Forbes, Sophie Wickens, Maxine Henriques, Jasmine Zaman, Abigail Larkin, Pramista Angdembe and Yuden Tamang.
