Students challenge MP candidates
Posted on 02 June 2017

Parliamentary candidates for the Aldershot constituency standing in the upcoming election visited the College for a 'Question Time' style event hosted by our students. Second year student Josh Nicholson compered the event, held in a packed Lecture Theatre. Students quizzed them about their plans on investment, tackling extremism and the economy.

Representatives included Leo Docherty, (Conservative Party), Gary Puffett (Labour Party), Alan Hilliar (Liberal Democrat Party) and Sharon Galliford (Green Party).

The candidates answered difficult questions, at times disagreeing over the issues such as tuition fees and Brexit. The candidates commented that they were very impressed with the quality of the student’s questions and concerns. The event clearly got students thinking and many were keen to continue to debate the issues afterwards.

Nathan Scott, Curriculum Manager for politics said, "It is so impressive that our students are able to ask such well-considered and thought-provoking questions. Several of the candidates commented on the high standard of the students' ideas and comments. Josh Nicholson did a fantastic job organising and hosting the event."
