On Friday, 16 June, the Sixth Form College Farnborough opened its doors to students, parents and invited guests for the private viewing which launched this year’s Summer Art Exhibition.

The Exhibition is an annual showcase of selected work completed by 350 second year students as part of their A level studies.  It celebrates students’ remarkable achievements provides guests with the chance to marvel at the creativity on display.

The work on display celebrates the four art programmes offered at the College - fine art, graphic design, photography and fashion textiles – providing richly varied pieces: there is something different to see around every corner. 

In addition to the work of College students, pupils from an Aldershot partner school’s art club contributed an installation piece depicting the recent transition from Connaught to Alderwood School.

Many of the students featured at the Exhibition will be continuing their art and design studies, going on to foundation and degree courses.  Farnborough has for many years been amongst the top achieving colleges for A level art and design and provides a fantastic footing for those wishing to pursue their studies in this area.

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Rushmoor Borough Council and ex-student, Sophia Choudhary, to the evening as well as the newly elected MP for Aldershot, Leo Docherty.  Both left impressed by the range and high standard of the work produced by local youngsters.

Principal, Simon Jarvis said,“I continue to be astonished at the wondrous achievements of all our art students.  The quality and breadth of the work is truly outstanding: the standard of the pieces on display could grace the wall of any specialist art college.

Art at Farnborough is a reflection of our student’s fabulous imagination, but of course they have been inspired by brilliant teachers: a huge thank you to this talented and devoted team for supporting our students so well.”

The Summer Art Exhibition continues at the College until Monday 3 July 2017.
