Film students recently impressed judges at the Camberley International Festival 2017. This year their work was showcased in a new category, the Short Film Competition, which showcased a range of films from both the UK and beyond.

12 films were shortlisted, including two projects from our students. First year film student Amy Wright’s, ‘The Lake’ was one of the 12 to be judged by industry professionals including CIF patron and BAFTA award winning actress Juliet Aubrey, course leader of BA Film Practice and MA Film at the University of the Arts, London Polly Nash and Director at Fudge Animation, James Hill.

Amy said, “It was an excellent evening. I was so pleased to be shortlisted as all the work was so strong. It was also great speaking to the judges and receiving their fantastic advice.”

The second project, ‘Cipid’s House,’ made by second year film students Francis Cousins and Evie Gordon was not only shortlisted but went on to win the ‘White Elephant Award’ for best short film.

Francis and Evie commented, “It was a privilege to be involved in the first ever competition. The range and quality of work was excellent. We are really pleased the judges appreciated our film.”

Dan McGrath, Curriculum Manager of Film Studies added, “It is fantastic to see our students’ work being screened and recognised in the local community. Our filmmakers work so hard on their pieces, it is important that we can show them off to as wide an audience as possible. We look forward to entering even more films next year.”
