Two groups of students recently returned from an incredible four week expedition to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.  Travelling with Outlook Expeditions, students enjoyed the extraordinary sounds, sights and smells in a truly memorable experience.

They trekked through the Sapa Valley in Vietnam, sleeping in village homestays, journeyed along the river through northern Laos and enjoyed the night markets and Buddhist temples in the town of Luang Prabang. Here, students also swam in the local waterfalls and watched as the monks walked down the main street at dawn during their daily almsgiving.

In Chi Phat, South West Cambodia, students took part in a six day ecotourism project. After trekking through the rainforest and crossing several flooded rivers they arrived at a site where they built a new shelter for future visitors. The team then spent a morning in a local primary school which children travel to by boat. The team donated $100 for life jackets to make it a safer journey, especially when the weather is bad.

During the trip they also visited the big cities, such as Hanoi in Vietnam and Phnom Penh in Cambodia.  In Phnom Penh students visited the S21 prison and the Killing Fields learning about the history of Cambodia and an important part of South East Asia’s past.

A great time was had by all and eyes were opened to the vast differences in culture and way of life.
