This summer the College’s Chamber Choir ended an academic year full of musical triumphs with an unforgettable tour to the historic cities of Leipzig and Dresden. The choir had a packed schedule, tackling a challenging programme of German cantatas by composer J.S Bach and a selection of choral works from their English repertoire.

They rehearsed in the Saxon State Music Academy at its base in Colditz Castle and performed in two of the world’s most famous churches, the Thomaskirche and Nikolaikirche. These sacred spaces were used as the backdrops for many of Bach’s most renowned masterpieces whist he worked in Leipzig as the Cantor and Director of Choir and Music.

Heading into her second year at the College, Music Scholar Molly Beere spoke enthusiastically about the experience. ‘This was the most wonderful opportunity to perform amazing music in the most inspiring venues. It was such a privilege to sing Bach in the venues in which he worked. An experience none of us will ever forget’.

Curriculum Manager Ben Dowsett said, ‘This was a truly momentous tour and to end in the Nikolaikirche, singing Bach in front of almost 500 people was an unparalleled musical experience for the Chamber Choir. It was a wonderful way to bid farewell to those members who have left the College community and finish off this musical year.’
