All the fun of the Fair
Posted on 28 September 2017

Last week saw the annual Freshers’ Week, which is filled with activities for students to get involved in. The Student Association organised live performances from students, outdoor games and film screenings as part of their fundraising activities, the proceeds of which were donated to Jeans for Genes. This event highlights the start of the year and encourages students to be proactive members of their community, not just within College, but in life outside of education.

During the week we also held Freshers’ Fair, at which over 50 exhibitors visit the College including local businesses, health organisations and College societies. It is an opportunity for students to find out about local organisations and sign up to some of the student led enrichment activities and societies.

Among the exhibitors were Mimosa Restaurants and Accelerate Driver Training, sponsors of this year’s event.

Dil Nepali, Area Manager for Mimosa Restaurants said, ‘What a fantastic event! It was great to see so many students engaging with our stand and employees. It proved to be a perfect event for us to promote our businesses.’

Rob Tillier, Director of Accelerate driver Training said, ‘It was most definitely the best Freshers’ Fair we have attended. The students were fantastic – engaged and interested. Great job - well done.’

Second year student and leader of societies for Film Production and Creative Writing, Callum Trevitt said, ‘The fair was an excellent way of signing up students to our societies. It gave us the chance to advertise, talk about what happens during the sessions and the experiences we can offer them. Without the Fair, we wouldn’t have been able to reach so many students at one time.’

Elan Goldsmith, Volunteering, Enrichment and Events Coordinator said, ‘It is fantastic to see so many students eager to get involved with local organisations, volunteering, sports and societies. It’s a wonderful event for both students as well as those organisations who attend.’
