Lord Coe presenting Eagle's Community Champions Award

College students Stacey Burrows and  Lucy Pygott, both tragically killed whilst training in November 2016, have been recognised as Local Heroes by Eagle Radio.

The girls' contribution to sport was celebrated at Eagle's Community Champions awards evening, held at G-live in Guildford on 21 September. Lucy represented Great Britain and won bronze in the 3000m at the inaugural European Athletics Youth Championships in Georgia.  Stacey also ran the 3000m discipline and was the Hampshire under-17 champion.  Their passing shocked the world of athletics with European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen saying he was 'very sad to hear of the untimely deaths of British runners Stacey and Lucy.  Their strong commitment to our sport will always be remembered'.

Lord Sebastian Coe, former Olympic champion and President of the IAAF, presented the awards to members of Stacey and Lucy's families.  Lord Coe was unable to attend the G-live event on the night but agreed to make the awards in person at a special ceremony held at the College.
