This time the spotlight is on music technology, a department which has seen an exciting makeover during the summer months, ready for a busy year ahead.

Installation of three brand new Apple iMac teaching suites has taken place, giving students access to the latest music production equipment. Each suite now features 18 iMac computers installed with industry standard software. They have Logic Pro X sequencing software, Native Instruments’ Komplete 11 which includes synths such as Massive and Reaktor, as well as an extensive sound library, Nektar MIDI controllers and Audient soundcards.

The department is also busy planning upcoming music events, both in College and at the popular West End Centre in Aldershot. This year will see the hugely successful ‘SixFest’ return and a ‘Later with Jools’ evening both showcasing the amazing talent at the College.  

There is also the upcoming trip to Abbey Road Studios in London, giving students the chance to perform and mix a track in the world-famous Studio 2, home of The Beatles recordings. Chief engineer Andrew Dudman, known for his work on Lord of the Rings and Mission Impossible, will be working with students and sharing his expert knowledge. This fantastic experience gives the opportunity to see a day in the life of one of the most famous and prestigious recording studios.

All these experiences enable students to finish their two years with fantastic production knowledge, in readiness for a successful career in the music industry. Many of our students study music technology at university and then progress onto a variety of careers including engineers in recording studios, film and TV composers, music producers or managers in the music business.
