The College Community Action Team, run by students, organised a fantastic week of fundraising events and activities to raise awareness for Hampshire based charity, Positive Action. The charity provide emotional and practical support to individuals and families affected by HIV. The charity approached the College back in January and the Community Action Team were delighted to promote their work and fundraise.
Throughout the week, the team sold a range of goodies at lunchtimes, including giant marshmallows, cookies, muffins and drinks. They also had a ‘Guess how many sweets in the jar?’ competition and two live lunches. Local band ‘The Shantics’ played in Café D creating an electric atmosphere with their indie rock songs. The band have just recently been signed by Goldun Egg Records so debuted their single, ‘Maybe I…’ for students. Their second performance was supported by students from the College’s Gay Straight Association who warmed up the crowd with their own amazing covers and mixes.
The week finished on World AIDS Day and the team sold red ribbons, a universal symbol of awareness and support. Over the week, the team managed to raise a fantastic £268. A huge thank you to everyone who donated money, got involved and raised awareness for a great cause!
