Second year BTEC Music students performed to a packed West End Centre in Aldershot for their final unit assessment. The ‘Music Project’ unit requires students to plan, organise and perform an entire event.

The assignment was an opportunity to experience the whole process, from forming bands and designing set lists, to sourcing the venue and promoting the show.

The night consisted of five bands, performing an eclectic mix of genres, from old school grunge and intricate acoustic-folk to 90’s hip-hop and modern indie rock. Tracks such as ‘I Want You Back’ by The Jackson 5, ‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’ by Arctic Monkeys and ‘In Bloom’ by Nirvana got everyone moving throughout the evening!  

The event sold well over 100 tickets and everyone performed brilliantly. It was a fantastic show. 

Caroline Hordley, Subject Leader for BTEC Music Performance said, “The skills the students have developed for this unit will give them a fantastic basis for future events. They have really risen to the challenge. The event ran seamlessly, with every aspect of the gig (design, budget, marketing, logistics) being thought out. You can’t help but be very proud of the outcome. Their performances on stage were also a great example of how hard they have worked throughout these past two years.”

Matt Prudente-Poulton, Curriculum Manager for Music Performance and Music Technology commented, “The crowd loved every minute and to see the students complete their music performance course in such an exciting way was truly memorable. They did us proud.”
