The College has been working with CAMUS, a local performance group, since the summer of 2017 on a collaborative performance that would focus on the WW1 centenary celebrations.  Being so closely associated with Aldershot Garrison, it was especially important that we celebrate the end of hostilities in WW1, to remember and pay our respects to those lost in the War.  ‘A Night to Remember’, an evening of performance, art, poetry and more, allowed us to do just that.

CAMUS performed a variety of polished sketches, using comedy to guide the audience through the War.  An exhibition was also created in the Prospect Theatre foyer using work produced by our graphic design, fine art and fashion textiles students.

English students, Anna and Natasha, wrote some extremely moving and poignant poetry highlighting the atrocities of war, which was recited by students April and Sophie.  April and Sophie also gave a thought-provoking presentation on research into members of the Queen Alexandra Royal Nursing Corps.  The three nurses they focussed on made invaluable contributions to the war effort and have memorial plaques in the Garrison Church in Aldershot.  April said, “The production was a wonderful way to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1.  I was privileged to present outcomes from this project which brought to light the unsung heroes of the War - nurses.  This was an informative and enjoyable evening to watch and be a part of.”

Music technology student, Jake, composed and performed two original pieces during the evening, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience who said they were ‘simply fantastic’.  Jake commented, “I really enjoyed composing for CAMUS - I am glad my pieces struck a chord with the audience and I am very grateful for the opportunity the College gave me.”

Graphic design student, Joeizha, had the mammoth task of designing the programme and marketing materials used for the event.  Joeizha commented, “It has been an amazing opportunity to be a part of this project.  It gave me a chance to utilise my own creativity outside of class which was a delightful experience.“

This collaboration has been a resounding success and was enjoyed by all those who took part.  We look forward to continuing our work with CAMUS in the future.
