In an explosion of song and dance, the 2018 Production Drama Company burst onto the Prospect Theatre stage in a version of Mary Poppins that was "practically perfect in every way".
Brilliant costumes, eye-catching lighting design, the debut of our fantastic new sound system and some inspired ensemble performance work all contributed to a memorable evening, capturing the timeless beauty of this iconic classic. From ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ to ‘Let’s Go Fly a Kite’ on to ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, this young company coped admirably with the tight harmonic structures, nuanced characterisations and precise choreography with effortless charm, creating memories lasting well beyond the duration of the evening.
In a hugely impressive ensemble cast, it would be unfair to single out individuals as all played their parts magnificently but special praise goes to Sienna in the signature role who sang so beautifully, Rhys as Bert for his cheeky charm, and Becky and Kieran as the Banks’ children, combining wistful innocence with youthful mischievousness.
Special thanks also goes to the flexi-crew for their fantastic ‘in the shadows’ technical support, ably marshalled by staff Helen Tuffin and Ben Sayer. And of course, the entire production would not have been possible without producer Emily Southwell and co-directors Ellis Simmons and Hermione Massey, whose direction, organisation and vision made for an ambitious and spectacular show.
