At the beginning of March, 44 psychology and criminology students attended a psychology conference at Disneyland Paris. Psychology Live! is an immersive event that gives students the opportunity to meet experts face to face and hear presentations on the most current psychology issues and key topics from the curriculum.
All the speakers gave great insight into their areas of specialism and showed the students some really useful examples and case studies. The talks covered topics such as how to manage stress, how to best stop reoffending in violent criminals and treat severe phobias. Students were even tested for how susceptible they were to hypnosis!
Following the conference, students had some free time in the theme parks which they used to conduct several experiments and observations including the psychology of queuing and diagnosing Disney villains with psychological disorders.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their time on the trip, with one commenting, “I had such an amazing time with a brilliant group of people. Thank you to all involved.”
It was really valuable to see how psychology can be applied to real life…or even a Disney fairy tale!
