Everybody's Talking About Jamie

51 BTEC performing arts students recently went to see ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End.

‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ is a critically-acclaimed musical inspired by the 2011 BBC Three documentary ‘Jamie: Drag Queen at 16’.  The show currently stars Layton Williams (Bad Education, Beautiful People) as Jamie New alongside Shane Richie (Eastenders, Minder) and Hayley Tamaddon (Coronation Street, Emmerdale).

The story follows a 16 year old boy who decides to be a drag queen. Supported by his loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

The students were in awe of the talent displayed in this exciting new production.  The touching storyline was visually and musically inspiring.

The students will now use this experience to inform their own musical theatre work.
