Students celebrate Oxbridge success
Posted on 05 April 2019

Each year, we report on the number of students from the College who have been offered places at Oxbridge.  This year, 27 students have been celebrating receiving an offer of a place at either Oxford or Cambridge.  We are hugely proud of our students, 13 of whom will be enrolling at Cambridge and 14 at Oxford in September.  They will be going on to study a variety of degrees, from Law to Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics.

The College has an enviable track record of student progression into prestigious universities.  In September 2018, 31% of our second year A level leavers who progressed on to higher education were studying at a Russell Group University, the 24 leading UK universities dedicated to outstanding teaching, learning and research.  This is a tremendous reflection of the high quality of teaching and learning at the College.

Director of Higher Education Access at the College, Alison Woolley commented, “We are delighted once again with the success of those students who applied to go to Oxford or Cambridge.  Competition at these prestigious universities is fierce so they should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.

Principal, Catherine Cole, said, “I am so proud of all the students who have secured a place at two of the top universities in the world.  These offers are not made lightly and all the students who apply to Oxbridge work hard to gain the necessary results to be successful. They are lucky to attend a college that has staff who are willing to support them in what is a challenging application process.  I hope the students enjoy the experience of meeting like-minded people who share their interest in the subject they have chosen to study.  Well done to all of you!”

Anna, who has secured a place at Oxford and came to the College from Calthorpe Park, said, "I was thrilled to receive an offer from Oxford!  After such a long admissions process, it was a relief to get the result I hoped for. The support from the College was amazing, particularly from Diana Laffin and the rest of the History department who helped me throughout."
