Like every year, Freshers’ Week was organised with great vigour by our Student Association (SA). Each day focused on a particular theme and was filled with exciting activities. The students enjoyed live musical performances on Festival Day, Dodgeball on Sports Day, Retro Games on Blast from the Past Day, and a petting zoo and delicious global food on Round the World Day. During lunch theme-based music such as retro classics and global favourites were played in the Quad to set the mood.
India-Rose Marriott, President of the Student Association and Ritika Nair, Communications and Marketing Officer for the SA couldn’t agree more on the buzzing vibe around the College throughout the week, "We are so pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope it got the year off to an amazing start.”
Some other comments from students were:
‘’The Esports were great, I really enjoyed watching!’’
‘’The animals were something everyone could enjoy!”
‘’Henna was super fun! It can cost a lot on holiday or to get done by someone else, so the fact it was free was excellent.’’
‘’The music was very funky and I enjoyed the atmosphere.”
On the Thursday, 35 external organisations, including potential employers, volunteering placement providers, health and wellbeing organisations and charities exhibited at Freshers’ Fair. In addition, more than 30 of our own student-led clubs and societies put out their stalls and spent a lively few hours encouraging new students to join them.
Christine Eustace, Director of Community Engagement at the College explains the importance of this inaugural student event: “Freshers’ Fair is all about the “extras” that make our College unique. We encourage our students to take part in at least one extra-curricular activity as it is an excellent way to meet new people and develop and evidence those all important employability skills at the same time.”
