English Language Lecture Morning
Posted on 05 December 2019

The English department recently welcomed Dr Rob Drummond, Head of Youth Language at the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies, to the College. He gave two lectures to second year English language students during a dedicated English language lecture morning.

Dr Drummond, who is also a reader in the Department of Languages at Manchester Metropolitan University, teaches sociolinguistics and phonetics to final year undergraduates and MA students. His lectures related directly to the A level paper 2 exam so the students found his sessions very interesting and relevant to their studies.

Dr Drummond commented, “I had great morning talking to 70 English language students and a number of staff about language, identity, and youth language research. Lovely to see so many engaged future linguists. They were a credit to themselves and to the English department.”

We hope to welcome him back again soon.
